Hope you are having a delicious summer!

We recently moved the business (and ourselves) to Eugene, Oregon! We’re proud to live in a community that has a rich history of natural foods pioneers and a long list of successful food startups that have become national names.

If you’ve ordered recently, how is the chocolate arriving for you in the summer weather?

We’ve had zero mentions of melting so far this summer and we have shipped to locations that were over 100 degrees. This tells us that if folks are home to bring in their package immediately, it’s very likely to make it in good shape! (Or at least no one has mentioned an issue)

If you have any feedback for us on how the chocolate has arrived, we’d love to hear. We send the packages out with a prayer & blessing that they arrive in beautiful shape, but we never know how it worked!

Our mini chocolate sampler gets an upgrade

We’ve updated our sampler to now include 3 meltaway singles!

  • Chocolate Covered Cherry
  • Hazelnut Meltaway
  • Black Lava Macadamia Nut Meltaway

Plus it now has free shipping. If you’ve been wanting friends or family to try our chocolate, this is a great way to go. You can send them the link, or better yet, buy a sampler for them as a gift.

You can find it here: Mini chocolate sampler (12 flavors) with Free Shipping

New studies about eating dark chocolate

Researcher Lee S. Berk, DrPH over at Loma Linda University has presented some interesting (but not surprising!) findings on consumption of dark chocolate (at least 70% cacao).

The article talks about positive effects on:

  • Stress levels
  • Inflammation
  • Mood
  • Memory
  • Immunity

Additionally there were findings that cacao consumption up-regulates various pathways invovled in T-cell activation, immune response at a cellular level and genes involved in neural signaling including sensory perception (potentially associated with brain hyperplasticity).

Berk is quoted in the article saying:

“This is the first time that we have looked at the impact of large amounts of cacao in doses as small as a regular-sized chocolate bar in humans over short or long periods of time, and are encouraged by the findings. These studies show us that the higher the concentration of cacao, the more positive the impact on cognition, memory, mood, immunity and other beneficial effects.”

A pretty interesting study for all of us sugar-free chocolate lovers to consider!
